About The Guiding Block

At The Guiding Block, we offer in-person therapy in Austin and virtual therapy for clients throughout Texas.

The Guiding Block is built on authenticity, resilience, and community. Think of it like the block you may have grown up on; a place where people looked out for each other, where stories were shared on front steps, and where you felt both grounded and connected. That sense of belonging is at the heart of our practice. Here, therapy isn’t about fixing what’s “broken,” but about reconnecting with yourself, healing old wounds, and building the tools you need to move forward with clarity and confidence.

We specialize in supporting dads who want to parent with greater presence and intention. Whether that means breaking cycles, navigating co-parenting, or balancing fatherhood with the rest of life’s demands, we show up for you. We also walk alongside teens, especially young men, who are trying to make sense of who they are in a world that often misunderstands them. Beyond this, we support individuals, couples, and families working through life transitions, relationship challenges, identity exploration, and the stress that comes with high-demand careers. Our clients include students finding their path, professionals seeking balance, and families who want stronger, healthier connections.

A smiling mixed, Black and Mexican man with a beard, wearing a cream-colored shirt and dark pants, standing outdoors in a lush green park with trees and sunlight in the background.

I know what it feels like to carry the weight of expectations. I’ve felt it as a parent, as a professional, and as someone navigating identities that don’t always fit neatly into society’s boxes. Growing up Black and Mexican, becoming a dad, and moving through the startup and corporate worlds taught me firsthand how easy it is to lose yourself in the noise of what others expect. I’ve been through layoffs, life transitions, and those quiet battles with identity that leave you wondering who you really are.

At The Guiding Block, I work with dads who want to parent differently, professionals searching for balance, and adolescents (especially young men) who are trying to find their place in a world that doesn’t always listen. My style is bold yet compassionate. I’ll challenge you to question the beliefs that hold you back, but I’ll also meet you with humor, authenticity, and empathy. Together, we’ll make room for the messy parts of life while also building tools for resilience, healing, and growth.

Four hands, each gripping the wrist of the next, forming a square, symbolizing teamwork and cooperation.

Therapy gave me space to pause, reflect, and reconnect. That’s exactly what I aim to create for my clients.

I believe growth doesn’t happen in isolation. It’s rooted in community, just like the block many of us grew up on. My goal is to help you reconnect with your authentic self while also feeling supported, grounded, and understood.

If you’re ready to step into that journey, I’d be honored to walk with you.

Why work with me

I bring both clinical training and lived experience to my work. As a biracial man who grew up within Black and Latino (Mexican American) communities, I understand what it means to navigate identity, belonging, and expectation. As a dad, husband, and first-generation college graduate, I’ve experienced the pressures of higher education, corporate and startup life, layoffs, and being in spaces where your identity isn’t always seen or understood. These experiences shape how I connect with dads and teens who are learning to show up fully for themselves and the people they love.

Therapy Approach

A father & his young boy playing with a soccer ball on grass in a park, surrounded by green bushes and trees.

I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all style of psychotherapy. Instead, I use an integrative style of psychotherapy that is informed by several data-backed theoretical approaches and adapted to your needs:

Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS):

Healing inner parts with compassion.

Family Systems Therapy:

Understanding how family patterns and history shape your present.

Solution-Focused Therapy:

Finding practical steps and strengths to help you move forward.

Narrative Therapy:

Reclaiming your story and rewriting the ones that no longer serve you.

Person-Centered Therapy:

Creating a supportive environment that is a nonjudgmental safe space where you feel fully seen.

A man wearing a birthday crown and smiling as his two young children give him toys and a bottle, one child is holding a toy lizard and the other is drinking from a bottle.
A young girl and her dad are looking at a laptop screen together, with the girl smiling and the man gesturing as if explaining something. They are seated at a desk with various stationery items, and the background shows shelves with storage bins.

This blend allows us to explore both the roots of your challenges and concrete steps toward change.
